Lilies Deadly to Cats, Veterinarians Warn
Lilies, a floral reminder that winter has passed, frequently appear in homes during spring holidays as potted plants or cut flowers. But for cats, many lilies can be as lethal as they are lovely.

Members of the plant genus Lilium produce a chemical, present throughout the plant, that can cause a cat to suffer fatal kidney failure. It can be deadly for a cat to simply bite into a lily leaf or petal, lick lily pollen from its paws, or drink water from a vase containing cut lilies. Easter lilies, stargazer lilies, and Asiatic lilies seem to be the most hazardous of this group of plants.
“Some cats appear to be more susceptible than others to lily toxicity, and the severity of the resulting kidney failure also varies from cat to cat,” said veterinarian Julie Fischer of the UC Veterinary Medical Center-San Diego. “Some poisoned cats recover with minimal therapy, while others require weeks of dialysis to live long enough for the kidneys to repair themselves.”
She noted that many cats never recover kidney function following lily toxicity and die, or are euthanized, within just a few days of becoming ill.
“Symptoms of lily poisoning include vomiting, lethargy or loss of appetite,” said UC Davis veterinary professor Larry Cowgill, co-director of the UC Veterinary Medical Center-San Diego “If cat owners suspect lily poisoning, they should contact their veterinarian immediately because a cat that has consumed the lily toxin very likely will experience kidney failure within 36 to 72 hours unless it receives appropriate treatment.”
The veterinarians note that while all plants of the Lilium genus should be considered extremely hazardous to cats, calla lilies and peace lilies, which don’t belong to the Lilium genus, are harmless to cats.

百合花看起來美麗動人，美國加州大學的研究人員發現，百合花葉以及百合花的花粉、花瓣，可能導致貓咪腎衰竭，由於百合花會產生致命的化學物質遍及整株植物，因此只要家中有百合花，貓咪只要抓一下再舔一下爪子上的百合花粉，都可能導致命。
研究人員表示，有些貓對百合的毒性似乎比對其他東西更為敏感，每隻貓所產生的腎衰竭嚴重程度也不相同，其中症狀包括嘔吐、昏睡無力和缺乏食慾，貓咪過幾小時之後，情況似乎就會好轉；不過，如果沒有接受適當的治療，百合毒素將在36到72小時之內，發生腎衰竭而死亡。

貓咪愛兜風 專屬安全帽

貓咪出門必戴安全帽，成為宣導騎車戴安全帽的最佳代言人！
南縣永康市民黃清源所飼養的貓咪「M」，出門必戴主人所特製的安全帽才肯出門，貼心又乖巧的M曾在女主人謝文雀昏倒時，在旁一直守候不肯離開，「M」的感人行為連鄰居都稱讚，直說「M」比家人還貼心，主人這麼疼牠很值得啦！
黃清源說，家中飼養3隻貓咪，就屬M最貼心與有靈性，因為牠的額頭有如「M」字的毛髮色，就為牠取名單字「M」。
主人手製 SIZE超合
黃家人從永康市搬到新化鎮崙頂里後，因常與主人往返於新舊家之間，M遂愛上搭車兜風四處走走，為保護牠的安全，黃清源將娃娃機所夾到做為包裝玩具的半圓型硬殼，加上形狀大小與M的頭型剛剛好，遂動手改製成「貓咪安全帽」。
黃清源說，只要將帶子縫製在外殼內再加上魔鬼沾，就能夠將帽子安穩地戴在貓咪頭上。
每次只要看到主人拿起鑰匙準備出門，M就會在主人旁走來走去一定要跟，為M戴上專屬安全帽後，牠就趴在主人肩頭上逍遙兜風，模樣可愛極了。
但要讓M乖乖下車可是要有「通關密語」，一句「要拿錢錢給人家了喔！」就可以讓M自動地跳下車，安靜在旁等待。
黃清源表示，很多人看到貓咪戴安全帽，都會投以好奇的眼光，還曾被警方攔下來「盤問」，詢問為何貓咪願意乖乖戴安全帽的方法。

狂戀愛貓！德國郵差娶貓咪
〔編譯俞智敏╱法新社柏林三日電〕有沒有搞錯？德國一名郵差米茲謝利希日前與他所飼養一隻名叫西西莉亞的肥貓結婚，他表示希望趕在患有氣喘病、高齡十五歲的西西莉亞去世前與「愛貓」結為連理。
飼養15年心心相印
德國「畫報」三日報導，住在德國東部德勒斯登附近城市波森多夫、現年三十九歲的單身漢米茲謝利希表示，西西莉亞非常相信人，兩人天天膩在一起，西西莉亞總是睡在他的床上，人貓心心相印。
由於跟動物結婚是非法行為，米茲謝利希還花了三百歐元（近台幣一萬兩千五百元）請來一位電視女明星扮演婚禮的主婚人，新郎雙胞胎兄弟艾瑞克則擔任見證人。
這對「新人」在婚禮中都穿著正式禮服，西西莉亞則穿著白色婚紗，新人交換結婚誓詞時，「她」還大聲喵喵叫說出誓言。

在土耳其度假勝地安塔利亞街頭，一隻被汽車撞倒的花貓倒在車子旁邊一動也不動，牠的白貓同伴卻站在牠身上，不斷用前爪踩壓胸部，白貓還時時用舌頭舔舐花貓的臉，動作就像是想把牠叫醒。
路人雖然想伸出援手，但白貓緊貼著花貓保護，卻不讓人類靠近，牠隔幾分鐘就踏上同伴身體用力按摩，直到2小時後，才有一名獸醫前來救治花貓，不過已經太遲。

網友斥「天殺的可惡」2009年11月22日蘋果日報
被控虐殺8幼貓的劉中強（25歲），就讀景文科技大學進修部休閒系，自稱十分愛貓，今年6到8月間，陸續在貓咪論壇認養8隻小花貓，但網友追蹤認養狀況時，發現小貓全下落不明。《蘋果》到劉中強家中查訪，也不見小貓蹤影，他稱小貓從紗門破洞跑走，否認虐殺貓指控。
愛貓的黃先生向《蘋果》投訴指出，他與妻子月前在路邊救回一隻橘白色相間小貓，上網尋求認養人，當時劉中強來電表示想為波斯貓找伴，想認養貓，夫妻將小貓交給他試養後，未料隔天詢問狀況，劉說貓送回汐止老家，又說走失。
嘴滲血不像自然死
劉中強住處的後陽台遮雨棚(箭頭處)曾被發現三隻貓屍。
擔憂小貓安危的黃妻上網搜尋，發現劉中強曾在6月認養2隻小貓，但不久後就不見，網友追蹤發現劉在3個月內認養8隻幼貓，但他卻說8隻貓是跳樓、載貓出門、沒關門走失，引發網友懷疑。
網友後來也到劉中強住處查訪，附近寵物店老闆高偉傑表示，曾在其住處後陽台的遮雨棚上，陸續發現3隻已腐爛的小花貓屍體，「貓嘴角滲血，不像自然死亡。」網友得知後痛罵：「此人真是天殺的可惡！」也有人說：「每隻貓都救得很辛苦，劉先生卻丟得很順手！」黃先生趕緊向警方報案。
失蹤情況不合常理
《蘋果》上周三到劉中強北市木新路住處訪查，他一臉無辜否認虐殺8隻小貓，說：「有的從破掉的紗窗、有的在騎車外出時、還有次是我門沒關，然後貓就跑掉。」強調很遺憾連續搞丟8隻貓。
對此，景文科技大學表示，將進行調查。北市動檢所長嚴一峰指出，訪查相關證人都指向劉中強是8隻貓的認養者，但他指稱每隻貓失蹤的情況十分不合常理，下周將約談劉說明。嚴也提醒，虐待或惡意遺棄貓狗，依《動物保護法》規範，可處1萬5千元到7萬5千元罰鍰，情節重大者加罰兩倍。

2009-10-08【陳志賢╱台北報導】
台灣大學工程科學及海洋工程學系博士生李念龍，去年間藉網路向人收養兩隻貓咪後，涉嫌凌虐貓咪後棄置在台大校園，致貓咪傷重而被安樂死；台北地檢署七日依違反動物保護法將他起訴。這是北檢近年來首度起訴凌虐寵物死亡的案例。
去年間，台大校園經常出現幼貓屍體，由於貓屍傷痕累累，疑遭人活活凌虐致死，引發軒然大波。經「貓咪論壇網站」網友發動「人肉搜索」，查出疑似台大博士生李念龍涉案，且至少有十隻雛貓受虐。警方調查後將李念龍移送北檢偵辦。
李念龍假愛心 收養兩貓凌虐遺棄
檢察官在起訴書中指出，李念龍在「貓咪論壇網站」搜尋欲出養貓咪之飼主，去年十月八日，李向他人收養幼貓「國慶」，李還向飼主說，曾經養過貓，但因已死掉，故還想再飼養貓。飼主誤認李有愛心，就將幼貓交給他。
李在貓咪到手後，便帶回台大校園，加以虐待傷害，致貓隻嚴重腦水腫及瘀血，李隨後將貓隻丟棄台大圖書館前。民眾發現後，將「國慶」送醫治療，但仍回天乏術，醫院只能以安樂死方式讓貓死亡。
去年十一月廿四日，李念龍又在網路上發現有人要出養貓咪「琥珀」，他以電話聯絡飼主後收養「琥珀」，同樣帶到台大校園內虐待，導致貓咪後肢遠端開放性骨折、前肢遠端骨折及頭、胸部挫傷、肺臟出血無法救治，事後丟棄在台大研一舍前停車場。送醫後貓咪也被以安樂死方式處置。
至少十貓受虐 網友人肉搜索緝凶
檢方調查時，李念龍坦承收養「國慶」及「琥珀」，但他辯稱「國慶」在收養前就已受傷，帶回宿舍後便死亡；「琥珀」則是在收養當天就放養在臺大校園，後來失去蹤跡，他的說詞與警訊及動物檢查所查詢時相同，始終否認虐殺貓。
但檢方查出，李念龍曾在去年十一月廿七日凌晨，在批踢踢實業坊網站上留言，指稱「琥珀」受重傷需要救援，根本不是如他辯稱不知貓咪去向，因此認定李辯詞不實，依法將他起訴。

Cat Adoption Agreement
In consideration of the donation of $170.00, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, the undersigned adopter(s) do hereby forever
release, discharge, and hold harmless, PAWS – Pemberton Animal Wellbeing Society, it’s Officers and Directors, it’s Rescue Coordinators
and any other person, firm or corporation charged or chargeable with the responsibility or liability, their heirs, administrators, executors,
successors and assigns, from any and all claims, damages, costs, expenses, loss of services; actions and causes of action belonging to the
said adopter(s) arising out of any act or occurrence on account of the adoption of _____________________.
The undersigned adopter(s) further agrees to abide by the terms of adoption, as listed below:
1. If for any reason the adoption is not satisfactory to the adopting party or if the adopter(s) fail to comply with all the terms and conditions of
this agreement, or if any misrepresentation have been made by the adopter(s) during the entire life of the adopted cat, the cat must be
returned to PAWS.
2. The adopter(s) agrees to take the cat to be spayed or neutered by the age of 6 months. Proof of alteration will be mailed to PAWS – PO
Box 265 , Pemberton , BC V0N 2L0. This fee has been included in adoption fee only if the animal is taken to the Veterinarians listed on
the Spay & Neuter certificate given upon final receipt of the animal.
3. If the cat is adopted outside of the Sea to Sky region, please provide names of two Veterinarians:

4. The cat must not be transferred to any other person, firm or organization for any reason whatsoever. PAWS will accept return of said cat

6. The adopter(s) agree to provide proper care for the cat as established by the adopter’s veterinarian. Proper care includes, but is not

7. PAWS reserves the right to periodically check on the cat to ensure that the adopter(s) is in compliance with this agreement. PAWS
reserves the right to reclaim said cat when warranted, due to neglect, abuse, inadequate care, or breech of contract. The adopter(s)
agrees to relinquish custody of said cat to PAWS immediately upon request, without legal writ or order, until the situation warranting
reclamation is rectified.
8. PAWS reserves the right:
To have a microchip implanted in cat to aid in identification of said cat.
To tattoo said cat.
9. PAWS reserves the right to follow through on this adoption in order to protect the welfare of the rescue cat. If the terms and conditions of
this agreement are not upheld by the adopter(s) and/or if any misrepresentations have been made to PAWS by said adopter(s), PAWS
reserves the right to terminate this agreement and the adopters(s) must return the cat to PAWS.
10. Should it become necessary for PAWS to take legal action to recover the adopted cat, or otherwise enforce the provisions of this
agreement, the undersigned adopter(s) agree to pay all court and reasonable attorney’s fees.

PAWS and its representatives accept no responsibility for damage or injury caused by this placement, or guarantees to its present or future
medical condition or temperament.

ORPHAN Network Cat Adoption Agreement
Terms and Conditions of Adoption Agreement
(1) To treat PET as an indoor family pet, with affection and kindness and not subject Pet to abuse, cruelty or
neglect as defined by ORPHAN at any time.
(2) To give PET at least 3 to 4 weeks after adoption to adjust to new surroundings, in consideration of the fact
that it takes this time period for an animal to adjust to a new environment, and for both PET and
ADOPTER to adjust to each other.
(3) To return PET only to ORPHAN if unable to keep.
(4) To keep PET indoors at all times, except when being transported as covered in item #12.
(5) To notify ORPHAN immediately by telephone if PET is lost or stolen and to make every effort to locate the
PET including placing advertisements in local newspapers, notifying local law enforcement officials and
regularly checking local animal shelters and pounds for a period of two weeks.
(6) To never take PET to an animal shelter, pound or humane society for the purpose of releasing ownership to
such organization.
(7) To never allow to be used or to use PET in animal research.
(8) To never allow to be used or to use PET for fighting, fight training, baiting or related activities whether
legal or illegal in the state of residence.
(9) To provide regular veterinary care, including annual checkups; vaccinations as needed; parasite checks,
prevention and treatment; and dental care.
(10) To provide proper food, shelter, fresh water, adequate companionship at all times, and to keep PET on a
leash or in a crate when not on ADOPTER's property.
(11) To feed and maintain PET on a premium, meat and vegetable based cat food at all times.
(12) To never transport PET without proper restraint designed specifically for this type of pet. To never leave
PET alone in a parked car, nor in any way to endanger the cat in similar fashion.
(13) To notify ORPHAN within 5 days if I (we) move and to provide new address and phone numbers for work
and home.
(14) To notify ORPHAN within 5 days of the death of PET.
(15) To allow ORPHAN representatives to periodically check on PET to assure compliance with items #1
through #14 of this agreement.

CAT ADOPTION AGREEMENT
1.The Oswego County Humane Society is placing the following described cat with you for adoption as a house pet.

2.Adoption Fee. We require an adoption fee of $ ______ for the cat to help defray our expenses for its veterinary care. The adoption fee is not refundable except as provided in paragraph 5. We have a very limited budget. The total veterinary costs for this cat have amounted to much more than the adoption fee. Any donation you can make in addition to the adoption fee is greatly appreciated.
3.No Representations. You understand that this cat was previously unwanted or lost and may have been rescued from a dangerous, unhealthy and /or cruel situation. This could result in the cat’s emotional or physical illness. You agree that we are making no representation or warranties about the temperament, personality or condition of the cat.
4.Care of the Cat. You agree to provide the cat with daily exercise, fresh water, wholesome food and affection. You understand that your adoption of this cat is intended to be permanent and you will not abandon it. If you are unable to keep the cat for any reason you agree that you will use your best efforts to find a suitable home. We will assist you in that effort of necessary.
5.Veterinary Care. You agree to have the cat examined by a licensed veterinarian within 10 days of adoption. If an unanticipated health problem is discovered during this first examination, the cat may be returned for a full refund of the adoption fee. You agree to have the cat examined by a licensed veterinarian not less than yearly thereafter. In case of illness or injury, you agree to seek prompt veterinary care. You agree to keep rabies and distemper vaccinations current.
6.Lost Cat. You agree to make a serious effort to find the cat if it becomes lost, by immediately (a) filing lost reports with the local police, animal control authorities, animal shelters, SPCA’s and local veterinarians, (b) posting lost cat signs and (c) contacting us for additional advice.
7.No Liability. The Oswego County Humane Society is not liable to you or any other party for any losses, injuries, damages, costs, expenses, Liabilities, lawsuits or judgments whatsoever in connection with your adoption or ownership of the cat.
8.Entire Agreement; Modification; Binding Effect. This agreement is the entire agreement between the Oswego County Humane Society and you and supersedes any prior understandings with respect to this adoption. No modification of this Agreement will be valid unless in writing duly signed by both you and a representative of the Humane Society. This Agreement is legally binding.

程姓女子只因認養的兩隻貓走失，就被送養單位追討十萬元違約金，旺旺流浪動物協會人員認為「匪夷所思」；消保官則認為，契約內容若無違反公序良俗，應屬有效；如何認定「違約」，爭議大。
旺旺流浪動物協會總幹事何淦銘表示，程女因兩貓走失就要賠十萬元，實在「匪夷所思」。他說，該協會從未要求認養人簽定類似契約。如果不慎走失，認養人可透過張貼海報，或者當初植入的晶片等各種方式尋找，用罰錢方式懲罰有愛心的認養者，「非常不恰當、也不盡合理。」
何淦銘強調，如果只是不小心讓流浪貓犬走失就要賠十萬，試問「這筆賠償金要賠償給誰？如果是收容單位領取，豈不是中飽私囊？」
財團法人台灣樂活動物協會理事長吳嘉珍說，保育團體要求認領養民眾附帶簽屬合約切結行之有年，主要目的是希望透過法律效力，保障流浪動物日後能受到妥善照顧。以樂活動物協會為例，民眾認領養協會流浪動物時，會要求簽屬三張「愛心認養書」。依照認養書內容，認養人故意導致動物受傷、失蹤或死亡，應付送養人五萬元違約金。不過，她也坦承，由於相關舉證困難，鮮少因違約開罰。
新竹縣政府消保靳邦忠表示，動物收容單位是希望透過契約，來強化認養人對流浪動物的照管義務，契約內容若無違反公序良俗，應屬有效。他說，認養並非消費行為，屬私法行為，契約人若拒付，收容單位理應可以依據契約提出求償。
新竹地檢主任檢察官林李嘉說，這項認養契約屬民法範圍，雙方若透過司法程序解決紛爭，法官在審理時會找前例作為判決依據。若無前例，法官將依雙方陳述的證據論定。若當事人已成年，法官可能會依據當事人的經濟狀況，做出適當賠償金額的裁決，讓當事人知所警惕即可，不一定要賠償到五萬元。

美國一名男子企圖拿小貓餵蟒蛇，雖然蟒蛇不吃貓，可憐的小貓還是被他虐待而死。
28歲的塔夫利遭人檢舉虐待動物，警方掌握檢舉人提供的一段錄影畫面，塔夫利在自己家的後院，試圖拿小貓餵蟒蛇，他滿臉猙獰的笑容，好幾次把小貓丟到蟒蛇面前，不過蟒蛇顯然對貓沒有興趣，塔夫利被惹惱，把小貓當成球，拋到空中，然後用腳去踢，小貓就這樣活活被折騰死，他的惡行都被人偷偷錄了下來，吃上了虐待動物罪。

A 28-year-old Mesa man was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after video apparently showed him trying to feed a 6-week-old kitten to a python.
Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies arrested 28-year-old Jeremy Tuffly at his home near Princess Drive and Recker Road.
The arrest came after Sheriff's deputies received a DVD that depicted Tuffly throwing the kitten at the python in an attempt to get the snake to attack it, according to a Maricopa County Sheriff's Department press release.
The video goes on to show that after the python failed to eat the kitten, Tuffly killed it by kicking it across the yard.
Tuffly was booked at 4th Avenue Jail on suspicion of animal cruelty, a class six felony.
